Dr. Michael Keating is a Professor of Medicine. His administrative appointment is Deputy Department Chairman for the Department of Leukemia. He has been a member of the faculty of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center since 1977 and works as a physician in the Leukemia Department.
His career is marked by close collaboration with laboratory scientists but this major focus has been on delivery of effective, compassionate care to patients suffering from leukemia.
Dr. William G. Wierda
William G. Wierda, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor of medicine in the Department of Leukemia at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Wierda completed a bachelor of science in biochemistry at the University of California, Riverside, followed by a PhD in microbiology and immunology at Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School in North Chicago, Illinois.
He then received his medical degree, also at The Chicago Medical School. Dr. Wierda then completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina, followed by a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He has previously served as a clinical instructor at the UCSD and a staff physician in the San Diego Veterans Healthcare System.
Research Interests
He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and abstracts in such prestigious journals as Blood, Leukemia, Cellular Immunology, and The Journal of Immunology. He is also reviewer for both Cancer and Leukemia & Lymphoma.
